Sports Injuries Shouldn't Keep You on the Sidelines

Whether an injury happened suddenly or developed gradually over time, the goal isn't simply to decrease your pain. It's to understand why the injury happened, restore your movement and strength, and help you return to your sport with confidence.

At Break Through Pain, Dr. Mike works one-on-one with athletes to identify what's limiting them and build a treatment and rehabilitation plan around the demands of their specific sport.

From competitive high school athletes to runners and active adults, the focus is simple: get you back to doing what you love as safely and efficiently as possible.

Sports Injuries We Treat

Sports injuries can affect more than just your ability to compete—they can keep you from training, exercising, and doing the activities you enjoy. We treat a wide range of sports and activity-related injuries, including:

Shoulder & Throwing Injuries

Shoulder pain, rotator cuff injuries, throwing-related pain, and other shoulder problems affecting baseball, softball, swimming, lifting, and overhead athletes.

Elbow Injuries

Tennis elbow, golfer's elbow, throwing-related elbow pain, and other overuse injuries.

Knee Injuries

Activity-related knee pain, runner's knee, tendon problems, and other injuries affecting running, jumping, and cutting.

Foot & Ankle Injuries

Ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, Achilles-related pain, and other foot and ankle problems that interfere with training and competition.

Back & Hip Injuries

Low back pain, hip pain, muscle strains, and movement-related problems affecting athletes and active adults.

Running & Overuse Injuries

Running injuries, repetitive-use problems, muscle and tendon pain, and nagging injuries that don't seem to fully go away.

A Different Approach to Sports Injury Care

Getting an athlete back to their sport requires more than simply making the pain feel better. We focus on understanding the injury, treating what's contributing to it, and rebuilding the strength and movement needed for the demands of your sport.

One-on-One Care

You're not passed between providers or given a generic exercise sheet. Dr. Mike works directly with you throughout your visit, allowing treatment and rehabilitation to be tailored to your injury and goals.

Treatment + Rehabilitation

Hands-on treatment can help you feel and move better, but that's only part of the process. We combine treatment with targeted exercises designed to restore strength, mobility, and confidence.

Get Back to Your Sport

The goal isn't endless treatment. It's getting you healthy, giving you a plan, and helping you return to the activities you love as efficiently as possible.

An Athlete's Perspective on Sports Injury Care

Before becoming a chiropractor, Dr. Mike was a college baseball player at Youngstown State University. That experience shaped the way he approaches sports injuries today.

Athletes don't just want their pain to go away—they want to know when they can play, what they can safely do now, and how to keep the injury from coming back.

Dr. Mike combines his background in athletics with more than 15 years of experience treating muscle and joint injuries to help athletes understand their injury, actively participate in their recovery, and confidently return to their sport.

Whether you're a high school athlete trying to get back on the field, a runner preparing for your next race, or simply someone who refuses to let an injury slow you down, the goal is the same:

Get you back to doing what you love.

Sports Injury Care for Young Athletes

Young athletes have different needs than adults. They're growing, often playing multiple sports, and may be practicing or competing several days each week.

At Break Through Pain, we help youth and high school athletes recover from sports injuries while considering the demands of their sport, training schedule, and stage of development.

Just as importantly, we help athletes and parents understand what's going on, what they can safely continue doing, and what needs to happen before returning to full competition.

The goal is never simply to get through the next game. It's to help young athletes recover well, build confidence in their bodies, and stay active for the long term.

Sports Injury Treatment FAQs

Do I need to be an athlete to come to Break Through Pain?

Not at all. We work with competitive athletes, runners, weekend warriors, and active adults. If pain or an injury is keeping you from doing something you enjoy, we'll work to identify the problem and help you get back to it.

How many visits will I need for a sports injury?

Every injury is different, but patients at Break Through Pain average just 3–4 visits. Our goal is to help you improve efficiently and give you the knowledge and tools to continue making progress on your own.

Do you treat youth and high school athletes?

Yes. We work with youth and high school athletes dealing with sports injuries, overuse problems, and pain affecting their ability to practice or compete. We also help athletes and parents understand what they can safely continue doing and what needs to happen before returning to full participation.

Do I need an MRI or X-ray before scheduling?

Usually, no. We start with a thorough history and physical examination to determine what's most likely causing your symptoms. If your examination suggests that imaging or another medical evaluation is appropriate, we'll discuss that with you.

Will I have to stop playing my sport while I'm being treated?

Not necessarily. Complete rest isn't always required. When appropriate, we'll help you determine what activities you can continue, what may need to be temporarily modified, and how to progress back toward full participation safely.

What happens during a sports injury appointment?

Your visit starts with understanding your injury, symptoms, sport, and goals. Dr. Mike will perform an examination and then develop an individualized plan that may include hands-on treatment, rehabilitation exercises, activity modifications, and guidance for returning to your sport.
